Our District:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

 Our Community:

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

The Sultan School District is seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated applicants for the position of Physical Therapist. An employee in this class participates in the development, implementation and coordination of a physical therapy program to provide screening, evaluation and treatment of exceptional students. The employee receives medical directions as to the specific results to be achieved and then exercises discretion in determining the clinical procedure to follow. The employee is expected to resolve most problems that do not require additional medical diagnosis. Errors in treatment could cause serious harm to students and ensuing liability for the school system. The employee receives general direction from the Executive Director of Student Services with the results measured by the referring physician. Direct supervision may be exercised over support personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and conduct on-the-job training and continuing education for a variety of individuals.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate with Physical Therapist endorsement.
  • Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Evaluates students using appropriate tests, clinical observation and supplementary information from other agencies and records.
  • Develops individual treatment goals and activities.
  • Administers treatment and evaluates its effect.
  • Participates in the multi-disciplinary meeting to develop Individual Education Plans.
  • Instructs and monitors educational personnel, community agencies, and parents in the management of the therapy program.
  • Participates in the development and evaluation of a school-wide physical therapy program.
  • Participates in documenting material needs.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with State guidelines and school policy.
  • Inventories equipment, materials and supplies.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Current academic knowledge in subject area.
  • Assessment and evaluation techniques.
  • Current laws, regulations and issues surrounding confidential records and student information.
  • Current research and best practices in physical therapy pertaining to special education.
  • Discipline rules and regulations as defined by the federal and state rules and regulations including IDEA 97.
  • Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) related to student discipline and Individual Educational Programs (IEP).
  • Curriculum and instruction programs proven to be beneficial to pupils with special learning needs.
· Social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of pre-school and school age students.

  • May represent the district on potentially sensitive or controversial matter

EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, FORMAL TRAINING:

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate (ESA) with appropriate Speech Language Pathologist endorsement.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
